Welcome To The Sound Of The Suburbs

Hi there, my name is Lewis Hawkins and I’d like to proudly present:

Sound Of The Suburbs!

I’ve created this site as not only a showcase for myself as an artist but I wanted to also create a central hub for Ska, Reggae, Punk & New Wave fans to get great information about the genres and amazing upcoming events!

KEEP THE FAITH!

New Years Eve Party at Bournemouth Pier!

Situated in the heartland of the south coast, is the seaside resort of Bournemouth. Here is an entertainment Promotions Company with a mission, Sound Of The Suburbs™ aims to bring ska, reggae, soul, punk, new wave, soul & mod music to the streetwise masses of the south of England inspired of course from a hit song by The Members and John Peel’s massive influence and contribution…

A mission masked in fun, discos, concerts, major gigs and festivals have all been staged under the “Sound of the suburbs” banner playing ‘the best’ venues along the Bournemouth to Poole strip including the defunct Jumpin Jaks, Poole Lighthouse, 02 Acadamy Bournemouth (Opera House) Mr Kyps and all 3 venues on Bournemouth Pier!

Pioneering the current ‘SKA SCENE‘ in Bournemouth the first night began over 10 years ago with the late and great Mr Desmond Dekker (RIP). Quickly followed by Neville Staple, The Beat and Bad Manners then many began jumping on the Ska Train and came to see more events with Nick Welsh’s Skaville uk + Rhoda Dakar, The Specials guitarist Roddy Radiation & The Skabilly Rebels and then heavy weight gigs including Jimmy Cliff, Prince Buster and Toots & The Maytals! Punk promotions have also been and gone with the UK Subs, 999, The Lurkers, Self Abuse, The Clashed, Sex Pistols Experience, Toxic Fruitcake with more to come…   In 2012 we introduced The Dualers to the Bournemouth Scene in a fantastic one dayer called The ‘2 Tone Taster’ they were supported by Garry Bushell & The Skanads, Toasting sensation from the Belle Stars in the way of Jennie Mathias, Mighty Shrimp, Offbeat Offensive and not forgetting great Dorset Ska band Rat Race. Due to an overhaul of the venue it hasn’t been possible to repeat yet in 2014 so we are breaking our promotions down into smaller parties please check our events page.

2007 saw the start of a Bi-Monthly night (Soul On The Sea) in arguably the most prestigious of venues Bournemouth has to offer ‘Key West Restaurant’ on Bournemouth Pier. With the addition of the second ‘Reggae’ room a year later (Jamrock UK) this is now one of the most successful nights ‘of the era’ on the South Coast! Facebook page for Sound Of The Suburbs Group…
